Uganda Cup Semifinals

First legs
•May 3: Kitara Vs Vipers – Butema, 4pm
•May 4: URA vs SC Villa – Nakivubo, 7pm

The Stanbic Uganda Cup returns with the semifinals following the conclusion of Uganda Premier League matchday 25.

Matchday 26 made a strong statement in the UPL title race, with Vipers tightening their grip at the top.

The Venoms lead the standings with 59 points, five ahead of Kitara, who boosted their chances with a win over SC Villa, with four games left to play.

It would take something extraordinary for Kitara to overtake Vipers in this year’s Uganda Premier League title race, but they remain determined to push until the end.

However, there is strong belief within the Kitara camp that they can knock out the reigning double winners in the Uganda Cup.

Kitara will host Vipers in the first leg at Royals Park, Butema in Hoima this Sunday, before the return leg at Kitende next Friday.

Vipers are the defending champions, having defeated KCCA in last year’s final at Kadiba.

They also eliminated Kitara at the semifinal stage last season, winning 1-0 in both legs for a 2-0 aggregate victory.

The other semifinal will see SC Villa take on URA, with the first leg scheduled for Nakivubo next Monday.

SC Villa, nine-time winners of the competition, are chasing a record-equalling 10th title that would see them draw level with KCCA and Express FC.

Their last triumph came in 2015 when they edged KCCA in a dramatic final.

URA FC, who have won the competition four times, have not reached the final since 2014, when they defeated KCCA on penalties.

The Tax Collectors have struggled in the league this season and currently sit 11th with 25 points, just above the relegation zone.

However, their Uganda Cup run—including a comeback victory over KCCA after trailing by two goals—has offered a much-needed boost.
