Uganda Prisons Netball Club have won the East Africa Netball Club Championship after beating NIC Netball Club 41-38 in a closely contested final played in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Prisons Queens came from behind after trailing 22-21 at halftime. NIC had earlier taken the opening quarter 13-12 and maintained a slim lead heading into the break.
However, the Ugandan champions returned strongly in the third quarter with improved defending and fast attacking play to overturn the deficit and take a 34-31 lead into the final quarter.
They then held their nerve to seal victory and claim the regional title.
Christine Namulumba and Aisha Nakuya impressed in attack for Prisons Queens, while Joan Reykoboth and Nashim Khadala controlled play in midfield.
Defenders Carol Abalo, Evelyn Ayitasi, and Stella Nanfuka also played a key role in the comeback victory.
The team was guided by head coach Hassan Kato Nouredine, assisted by Ruth Meeme, with Gonzaga Kigozi serving as conditioning coach.
“I attribute this to teamwork, with strong cohesion between the players and the technical team,” said coach Kato.

The Prisons Queens remained consistent throughout the tournament on their way to lifting the championship trophy.
