UPDF FC will look to secure their Uganda Premier League status when they host fellow relegation battlers Calvary FC at Bombo on Tuesday.
The Army side head into the penultimate matchday of the season sitting third from bottom in a campaign where two teams face relegation.
UPDF are 14th on the 16-team table, while Calvary occupy 15th place with 17 points. Buhimba United Saints remain bottom with 15 points.
A point against Calvary will be enough for UPDF to guarantee survival. Victory would open a seven-point gap between the two sides, while a draw would maintain the current four-point cushion with one match left to play.
Buhimba’s situation is even more complicated after the club failed to honour their recent fixture away to NEC.
Should they be found guilty, Buhimba will be docked three points — a punishment that would automatically confirm their relegation back to the FUFA Big League.
The financially troubled side are scheduled to visit Mbarara City on Tuesday, although it remains uncertain whether they will make the trip.
UPDF will wrap up their campaign away to SC Villa and will know that Tuesday’s home fixture offers their best chance to pick up valuable points.
The Army side come into the game on a four-match winless run since their emphatic 5-2 victory over BUL in Njeru. They were beaten 2-1 by KCCA at Bombo in their previous league encounter.
UPDF won the reverse fixture 1-0 in Yumbe, courtesy of Emmanuel Manu Ochen’s solitary strike.
Both Calvary and Buhimba United Saints earned promotion from the FUFA Big League at the start of the season.
