KCCA FC striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe has been unveiled by Iraq club Zhako SC!
The forward joins on a two-year contract, ending his one-season stay at the Lugogo-based side.
Ahimbisibwe won the Uganda Premier League Golden Boot with 14 goals, a season after scoring 16 with URA FC.
The move ends a period of speculation that had linked the striker with a move to Tanzania’s Azam FC, a deal that later hit a dead end.
Zhako SC finished ninth in the Iraqi stars league (top flight) last season with 53 points.
The hunter moves to greener hunting grounds
At 26, Ahimbisibwe’s move will divide opinion. Many will view it as a decision driven more by financial reward than career progression.
He leaves on the back of an impressive individual campaign, with his goals keeping KCCA FC firmly in the title race before they eventually surrendered it to Vipers.
There were doubts about his goalscoring instincts when he arrived from URA FC, but his reunion with coach Brian Ssenyondo—under whom he previously played at Synergy FC—proved to be a masterstroke.
KCCA had spent years searching for a dependable number nine following the departure of Shaban Muhammad, and in Ahimbisibwe, they appear to have found the ideal successor. He stepped up in a season when Derrick Nsibambi was hampered by injuries.
Silverware may not have arrived at Lugogo, but Ahimbisibwe re-established himself as one of the finest forwards in the league.
For yet another season, the Uganda Premier League’s top scorer has earned a move abroad, joining a growing list that includes Allan Okello, Muhammad Shaban, Allan Kayiwa, Caesar Manzoki, Steven Mukwala and Juma Balinya.
