Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have confirmed the return of forward Farouk Miya ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Miya returns to the Venoms 10 years after leaving the club in 2016 for a lucrative move to Belgian giants Standard Liège.
The forward had been training with Vipers and impressed head coach Denis Lavagne, leading to his return to the club where he made his name as one of Uganda’s most exciting talents.
“We are pleased to announce the return of Farouk Miya to the club ahead of the 2026/27 season, bringing back a player whose name remains etched among the greatest ever to wear the famous red and black,” Vipers said in a brief statement.
Miya’s most recent club was Greek second-tier side GS Ilioupolis, where he featured this year.
Since leaving Vipers, the forward has had spells with several clubs across Europe, including Standard Liège and Mouscron in Belgium, FK Sabail in Azerbaijan, HNK Gorica in Croatia, Konyaspor and Rizespor in Turkey, and PFC Lviv in Ukraine.
Before his departure from Vipers, Miya played a key role in helping the club win the Uganda Premier League title, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in his final season.
Vipers reportedly received a transfer fee of around US$400,000 from Standard Liège for his services in 2016.
Miya remains one of Uganda’s most celebrated footballers, famously scoring the decisive goal that secured the Cranes’ qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a 1-0 victory over Comoros at Namboole on September 4, 2016.
The Venoms have already strengthened their squad ahead of the new campaign with the signings of Joel Sserunjogi, Nicholas Mwere, Caesar Manzoki, Loyce Mbaba, and Jacques Mangoba, while Kenneth Kimera has returned from a loan spell at Express FC.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza, Grant Matsiko, Livingstone Mulondo, Nicholas Wadada, and Taddeo Lwanga are among the players who have left the club.
Vipers will begin their competitive schedule with the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup before embarking on a demanding season that will include participation in the CAF Champions League.
