Newly promoted Uganda Premier League side Blacks Power FC is one of the teams denied a club licence for the 2026/27 season after failing to meet several mandatory requirements under the FUFA Club Licensing Regulations.
The decision was communicated by the First Instance Body (FIB) Club Licensing Committee following its assessment of Uganda Premier League clubs and proposed match venues for the new season.
The committee sat on July 21 and 22 to review submissions from clubs in line with the licensing regulations, which require teams to satisfy sporting, infrastructure, personnel and administrative, legal, and financial criteria before participating in FUFA competitions.
Other clubs that were not granted licences include Kataka FC, Express FC, Lugazi FC and UPDF FC.
According to the committee’s findings, Blacks Power failed to comply with 13 mandatory requirements.
The club did not submit the required coaching licence for its head coach, while its assistant coach lacked both a valid employment contract and the necessary coaching qualification.
Blacks Power also failed to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to oversee the club’s day-to-day operations.
In addition, the club’s youth coach did not possess the required specialised youth coaching certificate, while the fitness coach lacked both a valid employment contract and the necessary qualification.
On the financial side, the club failed to provide satisfactory proof that players and technical staff had been paid their remuneration, putting it in breach of the licensing financial criteria.
Other shortcomings included the absence of a G2 academy, failure to operate a women’s team, lack of an official club domain email address, and having no verified social media accounts.
The committee further noted that the club had not appointed a safety and security officer, had not registered its club name and logo as trademarks, and proposed a home stadium that does not meet the minimum infrastructure standards required for participation in the Uganda Premier League.
Blacks Power and the other clubs denied licences have until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, to lodge appeals before the FUFA Licensing Appeals Committee. If successful, they could still obtain licences ahead of the start of the 2026/27 season.
