Over 700 Swimmers Set for 2026 Hertz Swimming Gala

It’s all set for the fourth edition of the Hertz Swimming Gala, which gets underway this weekend at Kampala Parents School.

The two-day event, scheduled for August 1-2, returns bigger than ever, with organisers extending the competition from its traditional one-day format.

More than 700 swimmers from 30 clubs are expected to take part in this year’s gala.

Sanctioned by Uganda Aquatics, the annual competition is reserved for junior swimmers aged 14 years and below, providing them with an opportunity to compete and assess their progress.

The organisers have confirmed five age categories for both boys and girls: six years and under, 7-8 years, 9-10 years, 11-12 years, and 13-14 years.

“This is to give junior swimmers a competitive platform, especially those who may not have qualified for the National Swimming Championships,” said Hertz Swim Club coach and chairman Magoola Acksam.

“These are swimmers who have been training throughout the year but did not make it to the national championships. This gala gives them an opportunity to compete and measure their progress.”

“We have been preparing for this event for about eight months, and everything is in place. The technical team is ready, while Uganda Aquatics will oversee the technical aspects of the competition, including timing,” he added.
