Mbarara City Football Club has unveiled new signings, a new board, a four-year shirt sponsorship deal and an ambitious target of winning the Uganda Premier League ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The changes are part of the club’s preparations for the new campaign, with the leadership also planning to rebrand the club to represent the wider Ankole region.
Hon. Mwine Mpaka has been appointed Board Chairperson and Club President, with Nixon Tusiime as Vice Chairperson.
Other board members include Hon. Francis Mwijukye, Hon. Mercy Kanyesigye, Eng. Jackson Byarugaba, Osborn Mushabe, Anita Vicky, Osborn Turyasingura, Benon Akandwanaho, Elone Natumanya Ainebyoona and Kigongo Asuman.
The club has also secured Africa Coffee Park as its main shirt sponsor for the next four years.
Hon Mwine Mpaka said that the partnership will support its vision of developing football talent in Ankole and Uganda, while calling on more sponsors to join the club.
The club, which was formed in 2016 following the merger of Citizens FC and Wakiso Town Council FC, will mark 10 years of existence on August 25.
Mbarara City that has featured in the Uganda Premier League for eight years, finished 12th with 26 points last season.
The club has therefore started stakeholder engagements with supporters over a possible name change and broader rebranding to represent the entire Ankole region.
Mbarara City will also continue its search for a permanent home after Kakyeka Stadium failed to meet the standards required to host Uganda Premier League matches.
The club has been hosting its home matches at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge District but is seeking approval from the FUFA Licensing Committee to move to Africa Coffee Park Stadium in Rwashamaire Town, Ntungamo District.
The club says returning to Ankole would be important for its growth and long-term stability.
On the playing front, Mbarara City has already signed Brian Aheebwa from Arba Minch City FC, Rogers Mugisha from KCCA, Ivan Bogere from UPDF, Solomon Okwalinga from Lugazi and Eric Tumwine from Kitara FC who boasts top flight experience.
Iran Musinguzi and Akoragye Hassan join from Kyambura Rasters, while Mahad Rashid joins from Bunyaruguru United.
The club is expected to unveil Francis Mugerwa as the new head coach.
