Kitara will look to complete the job when they host Mogadishu City FC in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round tie at Hoima City Stadium on Saturday.
The Royals carry a 2-1 advantage into the 4pm kick-off after securing a comeback victory in the first leg, with Jimmy Kalema scoring twice to overturn an early deficit.
Mogadishu City took the lead in the 17th minute, but Kitara responded strongly as Kalema struck a brace to give the Ugandan side a narrow advantage heading into the decisive return leg.
Coach Lutalo George William believes his team is well prepared for the challenge after a productive week of training and is targeting qualification to the second preliminary round.
The return of several players who missed the first leg because of CAF licensing issues has further strengthened Kitara’s squad.
“The return of a number of players is a huge boost. It has not only strengthened us but is also a sign that we are ready to qualify for the next round,” Lutalo said.
Kitara need to avoid defeat to progress, with a win or draw enough to see them through to the next stage, where Egyptian giants Al Ahly await.
The Royals are also expecting another big turnout at Hoima City Stadium after more than 10,000 tickets had already been sold ahead of the match.
Experienced defender Murushid Jjuuko is among the players cleared to feature after the licensing issues were resolved.
Midfielders Nicholas Kasozi, Martin Kizza and John Tooci Byamukama have also been cleared and are expected to be included in the matchday squad.
A place in the next round and a potentially high-profile clash against Al Ahly is at stake.
