Spartanz FC player Meddie Kaweesi Kanoute has died following a fatal road accident involving the Lower Division club on Sunday.
The Lyantonde-based side was travelling to Mbarara to face Makenke Barracks FC in their opening match of the Western Regional League when their vehicle reportedly overturned at Karengero Village.
Kanoute was confirmed dead at the scene of the accident.
The club mourned the loss in a heartfelt message shared on Sunday.
“Today we lost not just a Spartan, but a brother. We will carry all the memories. Rest well, Meddie,” Spartanz FC posted.
Meanwhile, the Western Regional League is expected to reschedule the fixture between Spartanz FC and Makenke Barracks FC following the tragic incident.
