URA FC have reportedly parted ways with head coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera following a poor start to the Uganda Premier League season.
The Tax Collectors are expected to re-appoint Sam Ssimbwa, a source has told this website.
The decision follows URA’s 3-2 defeat to Blacks Power in Bukedea, where Dissan Galiwango’s brace proved insufficient to earn them a point.
The result left URA with just four points from six matches, having won only their season opener against Maroons at Wankulukuku. They have since drawn goalless with Entebbe UPPC and lost to KCCA, NEC, SC Villa and Blacks Power.
Mwera joined URA at the start of the season from Express FC, tasked with rebuilding a side that finished 11th last term after managing just five wins.
However, he leaves with the club sitting 15th on the table, inside the relegation zone.
Ssimbwa’s return is reportedly imminent, with the experienced tactician currently a free agent after leaving his role as Uganda Cranes assistant coach.
He recently turned down an opportunity to take charge of struggling Mbarara City FC, who are also seeking a replacement for Francis Mugerwa.
Ssimbwa previously coached URA between 2018 and 2021, guiding them to second place in the 2020/21 season, just one point behind champions Express FC, when the campaign was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
