FUFA Lifts Ban on Referee Asadu Ssemeere

FUFA has confirmed the rescinding of an earlier decision to suspend referee Asadu Ssemeere.

Ssemeere was handed a three-month ban on May 6 after failing to send off Kitara goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige following a reckless challenge on Vipers captain Milton Karisa during a league match played on April 10 at Kitende.

The FUFA Appeals Committee has now ruled that the three-month suspension be suspended for one year.

This means Ssemeere will only serve the three-month ban if he commits a similar offence within a year.

A statement issued today read: “The FUFA Appeals Committee has partially upheld an appeal lodged by Mr. Ssemeere Asadu against the decision of the FUFA Referees Disciplinary Panel.”

“The FUFA Appeals Committee upheld the findings of the RDP that Mr. Ssemeere misapplied the Laws of the Game, but based on the specific circumstances of the case, decided that the three-month ban from officiating shall be suspended for one year and shall be imposed if Mr. Ssemeere commits a similar offence within that period.”

The development means Ssemeere is now eligible for appointment to officiate matches again.

Meanwhile, Kibirige was banned for two matches — against NEC FC and Express FC — and was also fined Shs500,000.
