SC Villa tore NEC FC apart with a 4-1 victory in a Uganda Premier League match played on Thursday night at Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Charles Lwanga starred with a brace, while Geoffrey Gagganga and Hassan Mubiru each added a goal to complete the emphatic win.

Emmanuel Kulanga scored a stunning consolation for NEC FC, but it was not enough against a Villa side that finished the game with 10 men after Farouk Matovu was sent off.

The result ended NEC FC’s 17-match unbeaten league run, which dated back to December 2025 when they lost 2-1 to KCCA.

It was also an uncharacteristic performance from NEC, who had not conceded a goal in their previous 10 league matches.

Villa needed just 10 minutes to break the deadlock, with Lwanga bundling home after being picked out by Ali Bayo.

Lwanga doubled the lead eight minutes later, capitalising on a mistake by goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo, who failed to deal with Ramzey Kawooya’s back pass, allowing the forward to tap into an empty net.

The contest was virtually over in the 35th minute when Villa made it 3-0. Gagganga received the ball from Ibrahim Kasinde before expertly looping it over Ssebwalunyo following a poor NEC FC clearance.

The second half was played at a lower tempo, although Matovu was shown a second yellow card in the 82nd minute after a reckless challenge on Warren Buule.

Despite being a man down, Villa added a fourth goal five minutes later through Hassan Mubiru, who bundled in from a Nabiib Yiga corner delivery.

Kulanga then pulled one back for NEC FC with a brilliant acrobatic finish after Ibrahim Musa’s delivery.

The victory, Villa’s 17th of the season, moves the Jogoos into third place on 58 points, just one behind second-placed KCCA with one match left to play.

It was NEC FC’s fourth defeat of the campaign, leaving them fifth on 50 points after 29 matches.

NEC FC will wrap up their season away to Calvary FC, while SC Villa will host UPDF FC at Kadiba on Saturday.
