Former Managing Director of New Vision Robert Kabushenga has expressed renewed interest in contesting for the presidency of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
This comes amid growing scrutiny surrounding FUFA President Moses Magogo, following ongoing corruption investigations involving his wife and former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among.
Kabushenga described some FUFA officials as “thieves.”
In 2013, Kabushenga attempted to contest for the FUFA presidency but failed to meet the eligibility requirements after amendments were made to the electoral rules.
Reflecting on the matter, Kabushenga said: “In June 2013, I wanted to contest for the FUFA presidency. The law was quickly amended to keep me out.”
He now says he is ready to return to the race.
“I am back to say I am still available for that task. I can bring about the footballing glory all Ugandans dream of. Time to save our football from thieves. Let’s take back our game,” Kabushenga said.
Magogo remains FUFA president until 2029 after he was unanimously re-elected for a fourth term (2025–2029) during the 101st FUFA Ordinary General Assembly held in Hoima City.
According to the FUFA Electoral Code, anyone seeking to contest for the FUFA presidency must have served as an executive committee member of FUFA or one of its member associations for at least four years within the last eight years before the elections. Candidates must also possess at least a FAMACO II certification, among other requirements.
During last year’s elections, aspiring candidates for the FUFA presidency were required to submit nomination letters from a first division club, a special interest group, and a regional football association.
Other requirements included a certified copy of a UACE certificate, a FAMACO II certificate, proof of payment of the Shs10 million nomination fee, and a list of proposed Executive Committee members.
