JT Lady Jaguars will look to take the first step towards the National Basketball League Finals when they face Magic Stormers in Game One of their best-of-five semifinal series on Friday at Lugogo.
Coached by Suudi Ulanga, the Lady Jaguars are strong favourites to lift their first-ever National Basketball League title.
They topped the regular-season standings with an impressive 20 wins from 22 games.
In the quarterfinals, they swept defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins, gaining revenge for last year’s finals defeat.
However, Magic Stormers are one of only two teams to have beaten the Lady Jaguars during the regular season.
The Lady Jaguars cruised to a 70-36 victory in the first-round meeting before suffering a shock 47-46 defeat in the return fixture. Joy Nekesa Mupalia and Kur Ajah starred for the Stormers with 18 and 11 points respectively.
The Lady Jaguars will be without influential forward Mercy Batamuliza, who is with Uganda’s national netball team, the She Cranes, at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
That absence puts added responsibility on Sarah Ageno, Bridget Aber and Among Annet to deliver in the frontcourt.
Magic Stormers finished fourth in the regular season with a 12-10 record before edging Pearl Queens in the quarterfinals to secure a semifinal berth.
Coached by John Omondi, the Stormers will be chasing another upset and will rely on the likes of Daphine Adong, Susan Eben, Maureen Amoding, Eve Grace Namuli and Kur Ajah to lead the charge.
