Olomi Takes Early Lead in 2026 JW Uganda Open Ladies Championship

Tanzanian golfer Neema Olomi has taken an early lead in the Ladies Open at the 2026 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.

Olomi, a scratch golfer from Arusha Gymkhana Golf Club, carded a gross 75 on the opening day to move to the top of the leaderboard.

The Tanzanian, who also led after the opening round of last year’s championship at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club, is chasing a second Uganda Open title after winning the 2018 edition at Entebbe Club.

“I feel great. I prepared for this. It has been a long time since I won this tournament, and I would like to do it this year. Leading on day one is a good start,” Olomi said.

She began her round with a bogey on the opening par-five but recovered strongly, recording 14 pars and a birdie on the 13th hole to finish one shot ahead of the chasing pack.

Compatriot Hawa Wanyeche and Uganda national team player Judith Komugisha are tied for second on 77.

Komugisha, who is familiar with the Uganda Golf Club course, was encouraged by her opening round and believes she can improve as the championship progresses.

“This is my club, so there is no stage fright for me. The course is in good condition. Today my swing was good, and I believe things can only get better going forward,” she said.

Several Ugandan players remain within striking distance. Three-time champion Martha Babirye, 2023 winner Peace Kabasweka and youngster Keisha Kagoro are tied on 78 and will be hoping to close the gap in the next round.

Uganda’s Joyce Kisembo and Tanzania’s Victoria Taiko are also on 78, while Assa Nambogwe of Uganda and Tanzania’s Ayne Magombe complete the top ten.

The Ladies Open is the opening event of this year’s Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship, with the competition continuing over the coming days as players battle for the overall title.

The championship is supported by ABSA, MTN MoMo, Aquafina, Pepsi, Case Clinic, Medisell, Rose Foam, Pearl Marina and NBS Sport.
