Absa commits UGX 300m to 2026 Uganda Golf Open Pro-Am

Absa Bank Uganda has committed UGX 300 million to the 2026 Uganda Golf Open Pro-Am, maintaining its sponsorship at the same level as last year.

The commitment marks Absa’s seventh consecutive year as a key sponsor of the Uganda Golf Open and was announced during the tournament’s official press launch at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante.

The 2026 Uganda Golf Open will tee off on August 13, bringing together Uganda’s top golfers and regional competitors across different categories.

The Absa Pro-Am, one of the tournament’s key events, will be held on September 1 at Uganda Golf Club. It will bring professional and amateur golfers together in a competitive format designed to promote interaction, mentorship and knowledge sharing.

Absa Head of Client and Digital Marketing Billy Bisanga said the bank’s continued investment is aimed at supporting player development and improving the standard of competitive golf in Uganda.

“Our partnership with the Uganda Golf Open reflects Absa’s long-term commitment to growing the game and creating opportunities for Ugandan golfers to reach the next level,” Bisanga said.

He added that the Pro-Am provides a platform for amateur and professional golfers to compete alongside each other while creating opportunities for international exposure through the Magical Kenya Open, one of Africa’s leading tournaments on the DP World Tour.

According to Bisanga, more than 60 Ugandan golfers have benefited from the experience over the past six years, gaining exposure and lessons that have contributed to the development of the game locally.

“We are proud to continue investing in a platform that develops talent, inspires excellence, and positions Uganda’s golfers to compete on the regional and international stage,” he said.

This year, up to 10 outstanding performers at the Absa Pro-Am will receive fully sponsored opportunities to attend the next edition of the Magical Kenya Open.

Priority will be given to the leading qualifying professionals, while any remaining slots will go to the top-performing amateurs.

The initiative is intended to give Ugandan golfers the opportunity to experience world-class competition and learn from some of the leading players on the continent.

Uganda Golf Union President Dr Jackson Were said partnerships such as the one with Absa are important to the continued growth of golf in the country.

“Strong partnerships are essential to the growth of golf, and Absa has demonstrated that commitment consistently over the past seven years,” Were said.

He added that Absa’s support has helped elevate the Uganda Golf Open while giving local golfers opportunities to gain international exposure through the Magical Kenya Open.

“The experiences are invaluable for player development and contribute to raising the standard of competitive golf in Uganda,” Were said.

The Absa Pro-Am has become a major feature of the Uganda Golf Open, strengthening the link between amateur and professional golf while providing emerging players with opportunities for mentorship, knowledge sharing and international exposure.

Beyond competition, the Uganda Golf Open is also expected to benefit the tourism, hospitality and service sectors while providing a platform for business networking and regional sporting collaboration.

The September 1 Pro-Am will bring together golfers, sponsors, corporate partners and enthusiasts from across the region as part of the wider 2026 Uganda Golf Open programme.
