The Cricket Cranes responded to their defeat to Kenya by beating Sierra Leone by eight wickets in the second round of the ILT20 Continent Cup at Gahanga International Cricket Stadium in Kigali.
Uganda bowled Sierra Leone out for just 55 in 17.4 overs before chasing the target in seven overs.
Gerald Olipa was Uganda’s standout performer, taking three wickets for 15 runs in 2.4 overs on his international debut as an off-spinner.
Joseph Baguma, Enock Kasaija and Kenneth Waiswa took two wickets each, while Matthew Musinguzi claimed one.
Sierra Leone struggled from the start, slipping to 13 for two in the fourth over. Raymond Coker top-scored with 14 runs, while Aliya Kamara made 11.
Uganda also lost Anas Mirza Baig for a first-ball duck in the chase, but Robinson Obuya and T20I debutant Fahad Mutagana steadied the innings.
Obuya finished unbeaten on 20 off 22 balls, while Mutagana made 10 before his dismissal.
Olipa then sealed the victory in style, smashing an unbeaten 21 off just nine balls, including three fours and a six, as Uganda reached 56 for two in seven overs.
His all-round display earned him Player of the Match honours.
The win takes Uganda to eight points from five matches, keeping them second behind unbeaten Kenya, who have 12 points from six games.
Rwanda are third with six points, while Botswana have two and Sierra Leone remain without a point.
The Cricket Cranes will face Botswana on Wednesday, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
Uganda are seeking a third consecutive ILT20 Continent Cup title.
