Uganda’s Cricket Cranes secured qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final after crushing Mozambique by 10 wickets in the Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Cranes bowled out Mozambique for just 19 runs in 7.2 overs before chasing the target in five balls, registering their second successive 10-wicket victory.
Juma Miyaji and Enock Kasaija were the stars with the ball, taking five and four wickets respectively to dismantle Mozambique’s batting line-up.
Miyaji claimed career-best T20 International figures of five wickets for seven runs in four overs, while Kasaija returned an impressive four for four in 2.2 overs. Alpesh Ramjani took the remaining wicket, conceding three runs in one over.
Seven of Mozambique’s 10 wickets fell to bowled dismissals as Uganda’s bowlers dominated from the start.
In response, Robinson Obuya smashed an unbeaten 16 off just three balls, including two sixes and a four, while Raghav Dhawan added seven not out from two deliveries, including a six, as Uganda raced to 23 without loss.
Miyaji was named Player of the Match after his outstanding performance, which came in his second appearance since reaching 50 T20I caps for Uganda.
The victory was Uganda’s fourth in as many matches, taking them to eight points and the top of the six-team standings at the time of the latest update.
The Cranes had also dismissed The Gambia for 27 runs on Friday before completing a 10-wicket victory in just 1.4 overs.
Uganda will now face hosts Nigeria on Sunday, October 25, in their final fixture, with the two sides battling for the tournament title.
Nigeria had won their first three matches before Saturday’s fixture, setting up a clash between the competition’s leading teams.
The match will be played at NCF Oval 1 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, with the first ball scheduled for 3:50pm East African Time.
