SC Villa collected their fifth win of the season after beating Mbarara City 2-0 in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Thursday.
Frank Ssebuufu and Najib Yiga scored a goal each to secure maximum points for the Jogoos.
Ssebuufu opened the scoring in the 11th minute, heading home after Isaac Mpagi’s effort had ricocheted off the crossbar.
Villa sealed the victory deep into added time when substitute Yiga headed home Geoffrey Lubangakene’s long throw-in.
It was not the usual free-flowing performance from the Jogoos, but the result was what mattered as they continued their push for the title.

Villa also suffered injury concerns, with goalkeeper David Lukwago forced off and replaced by Hassan Matovu. Ibrahim Kasinde and Patrick Jonah Kakande were also withdrawn early after struggling to make an impact.
Mbarara City put up an impressive fight, with Muhammad Kyeyune denied by Lukwago before his substitution, while substitute Clinton Kamugisha missed a clear opportunity with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Both sides had penalty appeals turned down by referee Dick Okello. Villa appealed after Ssebuufu was tripped in the box by Rogers Mugisha, while Mbarara City also felt Kyeyune had been fouled at the opposite end.
The victory lifts SC Villa to second place with 17 points, two behind leaders BUL. Mbarara City, who have won just once this season, remain 14th with five points.
