Busitema University will be represented by a 15-member delegation at the 12th Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) Games in Cairo, Egypt.
The Games, scheduled for September 8 to 16, will bring together more than 136 universities from 26 African countries, with athletes competing in 21 disciplines.
Busitema will enter athletes in athletics, tennis and chess, giving its students an opportunity to compete against some of the leading university sports talent from across the continent.
The delegation will be headed by Dean of Students Joseph Erogo Wanyama, while Deputy Chief of Sports Dr Agnes Baluka Masajja will serve as the technical delegate.
For the university, the trip is intended to give its student-athletes valuable exposure to international competition while also providing a platform to assess their progress against competitors from other African institutions.
The participation is also expected to enhance Busitema University’s presence in African university sports and create opportunities for interaction with other universities, athletes and sports officials.
Athletics will be making its debut for Busitema University at the FASU Games, adding another discipline to the institution’s growing sporting programme.
The university already has a strong record in FASU competitions. It won the FASU Mini Games Championship in 2022, earned silver in the 2024 FASU Tennis competition at Makerere University and took bronze at the 2024 FASU King of Africa Rugby event hosted by USIU in Nairobi, Kenya.
In Cairo, the university’s representatives will be aiming for strong results while gaining experience that can contribute to their development both on and off the field.
