Kitara FC have set up a mouthwatering clash with African giants Al Ahly after eliminating Mogadishu City in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
Kitara defeated Mogadishu City 2-0 in the return leg on Saturday at Hoima City Stadium to advance 4-1 on aggregate.
Jimmy Kalema, who scored both goals in Kitara’s 2-1 first-leg victory, opened the scoring after 30 minutes. The forward combined with Patrick Kaddu before following up to finish after his initial effort was saved.
Kalema came close to doubling the advantage shortly after, but his effort struck the upright as Kitara continued to dominate.
Frank Zaga Tumwesigye added the second goal in the 62nd minute, volleying home after Jasper Aheebwa headed the ball into his path.
Cheered on by a sizeable home crowd, Kitara controlled proceedings and could have taken the lead earlier, but Kabon Living’s corner struck the crossbar.
Kitara are now one tie away from reaching the lucrative group stages, but standing in their way are Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The two sides are expected to meet in a two-legged tie in October.

Kitara’s Lineup used – Joel Mutakubwa, Henry Musisi, Jasper Aheebwa, Isa Lumu, Murushid Juuko, Frank Zaga Tumwesigye, Missi Diego Ssemugera, Gaddafi Wahab, Patrick Kaddu, Kabon Living, Jimmy Kalema
