Mbarara City assistant coach Zaidi Byekwaso has rued missed chances after his side played out a goalless draw against NEC FC in the Uganda Premier League on Friday at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge.
Neither side could find the breakthrough after 90 minutes as Mbarara City struggled to turn their opportunities into goals.
The Ankole Lions started with Brian Aheebwa in attack but could not make the difference even after the introduction of Clinton Kamugisha and Ivan Bogere.
“We didn’t take our chances, especially in the second half, and we didn’t utilise them. The failure to kill off games has cost us.
“It also cost us in our first game against Police. We will rectify that and see how our strikers sharpen up and kill off games.”
The draw was Mbarara City’s second game of the season after they lost 1-0 away to Police FC in their league opener in Kamwokya.
Their Matchweek Two fixture against Kitara was postponed due to the Royals’ involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Mbarara City, who have collected one point from a possible six, will next host Entebbe UPPC on September 16.
“We hope to do better in our next game against UPPC.”
The Ankole Lions will also hope to welcome back Bright Joseph Vuni, Godfrey Kacancu and captain Karim Ramathan, who all missed the NEC clash.
For Badru Kaddu’s NEC FC, the draw brought an end to their perfect start after victories over KCCA and Lugazi FC in their opening two matches.
Mbarara City move to 14th on the 18-team table, while NEC remain third with seven points, behind early leaders BUL and Blacks Power.
