Namuwongo Blazers will represent Uganda at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2027 Qualifiers, with Hoima City Arena set to host the East Division Group D games from October 23 to 26, 2026.
The Blazers confirmed their participation in a statement, expressing their readiness to compete in the continental competition for the second consecutive year.
According to the competition information released by FIBA, Namuwongo Blazers will face Urunani of Burundi, Patriots of South Sudan, COSPN of Madagascar and Comoros’ Ushundi in Group D.
The top two teams from the group will advance to the Elite 16 tournament, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from November 24 to 29, 2026.
The Ugandan champions said the opportunity provides a platform for the club, its players and the country’s basketball fraternity to showcase the continued growth and competitiveness of the game in Uganda.
The club also pledged to work closely with FIBA Africa, the National Council of Sports (NCS), the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) and other stakeholders to ensure successful participation and organisation of the tournament.
The qualifiers will provide the Blazers with an opportunity to progress towards the Elite 16 and move closer to securing a place in the 2027 BAL season.
The Blazers, last season, failed to go past the Road to BAL after defeats against Nairobi City Thunder and Johannesburg Giants.
