Uganda’s She Cranes will face South Africa’s Spar Proteas in the Netball’s fifth-place playoff on Friday at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The clash comes after both African giants finished third in their respective groups, missing out on places in the semifinals.
It will be another chapter in one of African netball’s fiercest rivalries.
The She Cranes suffered defeats to New Zealand and Jamaica after opening their campaign with victories over Wales and Trinidad and Tobago.
However, they ended the group stage on a high by beating hosts Scotland 65-56 on Thursday.
New Zealand finished top of the group with a perfect record, while Jamaica claimed second place ahead of Uganda thanks to a superior head-to-head record.
Goal shooter Mary Nuba Cholhok starred with 46 goals against Scotland, while Shadiah Nassanga contributed 19 in the victory.
South Africa, meanwhile, lost to England and Australia but recorded wins over Tonga, Northern Ireland and Malawi to finish third in their pool.
Uganda will take confidence from recent meetings between the two sides. The She Cranes defeated South Africa 54-48 in the fifth-place playoff at the 2022 Commonwealth Games before edging them 49-47 in another fifth-place playoff at the 2023 Netball World Cup.
