JKL Lady Dolphins suffered their fourth defeat of the season after falling 45-62 to UPDF Lady Tomahawks in a National Basketball League game played on Saturday at Rezlife Court in Lubowa.
The defending champions looked short on depth and quality as they continue to miss several key players.
UPDF capitalised on JKL’s struggles, racing to a 21-11 lead after the opening quarter before stretching the advantage to 17 points at halftime. The army side maintained control for the rest of the game to secure a deserved victory.
Dorah Nakijoba and Ruth Letaru both registered double-doubles to inspire UPDF. Nakijoba finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Letaru added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Tamasha Nsubuga and Shiprah Kiranda scored 17 and 10 points respectively for JKL, with Kiranda making her debut after joining the team during the mid-season transfer window.
It was a disappointing outing for the Lady Dolphins, with normally reliable Ritah Imanishimwe managing just five points after shooting 1-for-11 from three-point range.
The defeat means JKL have now lost both meetings against UPDF this season, having also fallen 55-72 in the first round.
JKL had earlier suffered defeats to KCCA Leopards and UCU Lady Canons, and now slip to a 9-4 record after 15 games, including the double walkover loss to KIU Rangers.
UPDF, who dominated the rebounds 71-40, improved to 7-8 as they continue pushing for a better playoff position.
