Relegated Buhimba United Saints will host URA FC in their final game of the season on Friday at Royals Park in Hoima.

Ordinarily, all final-day league matches are played on the same day and at the same time.

However, with both Buhimba and Kitara using the same venue for their home games, the two clubs found themselves scheduled to play at home on matchday 30.

As a result, the Uganda Premier League decided that Buhimba’s fixture would be played on Friday, before Kitara host Police on Saturday alongside the rest of the final-day fixtures.

It has been a difficult campaign for Buhimba despite a promising start to life in the top flight. In their debut season, they won their opening three matches against Entebbe UPPC, Calvary and Kitara without conceding a goal.

But their fortunes quickly changed. A 3-0 defeat to BUL in their fourth game marked the beginning of a downward spiral, with the side going on to lose 20 more matches to date.

Administrative wrangles proved to be one of the club’s biggest setbacks, triggering financial hardships, especially during the second half of the campaign.

Midway through the season in January, FUFA sanctioned three players — Ayebale Moses, Dudu Ramathan and Fred Nkata — over alleged match-fixing.

The trio failed to show up for the club’s fixture against NEC FC, and FUFA is yet to deliver a final verdict on the matter.

Earlier in the campaign, the team also arrived late for a home game against Express before eventually losing 2-0 at Butema. That came hours after the club coach Robert Mukasa confirmed his resignation!

In their most recent fixture against Mbarara City at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge, kickoff was delayed after the team once again arrived late while struggling to assemble a full squad.

They went on to lose 2-0, a result that officially confirmed their relegation.

For many connected to the club, the end of the season may come as a relief, with the final whistle bringing an end to a campaign filled with challenges and uncertainty over what lies ahead.

Notably, there is an ongoing court case in which club president and founder Julius Ahurra accuses several shareholders and officials — including his brother and club manager Sutamukama Everest — of forgery, illegal share redistribution and other allegations.

This comes amid growing rumors that the club could be sold. Should that happen, the team is expected to relocate and undergo a name change.

The match against URA FC could therefore carry added significance, as it may be Buhimba United Saints’ final game in their current form.
