FIFA, in coordination with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced plans to send a joint mission to Kenya to engage with members of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee amid ongoing governance and leadership concerns within the federation.
The latest development follows FIFA’s intervention last month, when the world football governing body declined to recognize a resolution by a section of the FKF National Executive Committee that sought to have President Hussein Rashid Mohammed step aside pending investigations into governance and financial management allegations.
FIFA maintained that the move did not comply with the procedures outlined under Article 41 of the FKF Constitution and therefore could not be recognized.
In a letter addressed to the FKF President, Vice-President and General Secretary, FIFA reiterated the importance of ensuring that all matters affecting the governance and leadership of the federation are handled in strict compliance with the FKF Constitution.
The correspondence, signed by Ahmed Harraz, FIFA’s Team Lead for Member Association Governance Services, references previous exchanges between FIFA and FKF, as well as an earlier letter dated 25 May 2026.
According to FIFA, the planned mission will take place as soon as practically possible after 18 June 2026.
The objective of the visit is to meet directly with members of the FKF National Executive Committee and gain a comprehensive understanding of the current situation before offering guidance on the way forward.
“The purpose of this visit will be to engage directly with the members of the FKF National Executive Committee and to discuss in detail the current situation, with a view to obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the matters at hand and providing appropriate guidance,” FIFA said.
In a significant development, FIFA and CAF have urged members of the FKF National Executive Committee to refrain from convening further meetings or making decisions that could affect the federation’s governance, leadership or overall stability until the joint mission has taken place and consultations have been completed.
The two bodies said the request is aimed at safeguarding institutional stability and ensuring that any future decisions are taken after all relevant discussions have been held.
FIFA also requested that the correspondence be shared with all members of the FKF National Executive Committee for their information and consideration.
“We trust that all concerned will afford FIFA and CAF the opportunity to meet with the members of the National Executive Committee and to directly address the situation before any further steps are taken,” the letter stated.
