Namuwongo Blazers will be aiming to complete a season double over Kampala Rockets when the two sides meet today in the National Basketball League regular-season game at ABJA Park in Naalya.
The Blazers won the first-round meeting 88-75 and face a Rockets side that has already been relegated to the lower division following a disappointing campaign.
Nyembo Fataki led the way with 18 points in that victory, while Innocent Ochera and Peter Obleng added 17 and 13 points respectively.
Namuwongo have won 18 of their 20 games this season and require victories over Kampala Rockets today and UCU Canons on Friday to leapfrog City Oilers and finish top of the standings heading into the playoffs.
The Blazers are on a three-game winning streak since suffering their only second-round defeat to Rezlife Saints.
That run includes victories over City Oilers, Sommet and Victoria Crocs. In their most recent outing, they defeated the Crocs 74-48, with Obleng and Fataki scoring 14 points apiece.
Kampala Rockets, meanwhile, have lost all their second-round games. Their only two victories this season came in the first round against JT Jaguars and UPDF Tomahawks.
Financial challenges have contributed significantly to the Rockets’ struggles, with several players leaving the club after the first round over unpaid arrears.
The team has rarely trained consistently, and their poor form has been evident throughout the campaign.
