Uganda Cranes Friendly Against Zanzibar Called Off

The Uganda Cranes’ international friendly match against Zanzibar has been called off due to Ebola-related health concerns, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed.

The match had been scheduled for June 11, 2026, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar as part of celebrations marking 100 years of football administration in the islands.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, FUFA said it had received communication from the Zanzibar Football Federation informing them that the fixture would no longer take place following health precautionary directives issued by the government.

“The Zanzibar Football Federation has informed FUFA that the international friendly match between Zanzibar and Uganda Cranes has been cancelled due to health concerns related to Ebola prevention measures,” the statement said.

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put had named a 22-man squad composed entirely of locally based players for the encounter. The team had already begun preparations at Lugogo in Lugogo earlier this week.

The cancellation adds to a growing list of disrupted Uganda Cranes fixtures in recent months. Last week’s planned international friendlies against Tanzania and Madagascar in Morocco were also called off due to health-related concerns.

Earlier in March, Uganda’s scheduled matches against Madagascar and Bahrain in Turkey were cancelled over safety concerns.
