Olympic Values Contest Inspires Students at Olive School Namugongo

Students from different parts of Uganda gathered at Olive School Namugongo for the 11th edition of the Olympic Values Contest, an event aimed at promoting Olympic ideals among young people.

The contest, organized by the Culture and Olympic Education Commission of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) with support from Olympic Solidarity, was held under the theme “Live the Values, Shape the Future.”

More than 23 schools from the Central, Eastern, Western and South-Western regions took part in the competition. Participants showcased their skills in debates, public speaking, essay writing, poetry recitals and quiz bowl contests, all centered on Olympic values.

To encourage teamwork and unity, students were grouped into mixed teams named after Olympic values including Respect, Friendship, Fair Play, Peace, Humanity, Excellence, Balance and Joy of Effort. Team Peace emerged as the overall winner of the competition.

Speaking at the event, Uganda Olympic Committee President Dr. Donald Rukare said Olympic values are important in shaping responsible and resilient young leaders. He encouraged students to embrace the values in their daily lives and use them to create positive change in their communities.

Miss Uganda 2026, Trivia Muhoza, also attended the event and inspired participants with messages about self-awareness, respect, friendship and the empowerment of girls.

Organizers said the annual contest continues to help young people develop leadership skills, critical thinking and social responsibility. The top five performers in different categories will represent Uganda at the Olympic Values Symposium in Lesotho this July.

Schools that participated included Mbale SS, Gombe SSS, Kibibi SS, Summaya Islamic School, Summaya Girls High School, Nabisunsa Girls’ School, Mbarara High School, Baptist High School, Muntuyera High School, Viva College School Jinja, Shree Sahajanand International School, Bishop Cipriano Kihangire School, Naalya SS Namugongo, Kabowa High School, Mpigi Light College-Bozza, Atlas High School, Seroma Christian High School, Kira College Butiki, Jinja SSS and Rise and Shine High School Ntinda.
