UCU Lady Canons settled for second place despite defeating KCCA Leopards in their final National Basketball League regular-season game on Sunday.
The Lady Canons took control early, winning the opening quarter 10-1, and never looked back as they dominated from start to finish to complete a season double over KCCA, having also won the first-round meeting 51-34.
Mariam Namukwaya and Sarah Namale led the scoring with 13 and 12 points respectively, while Sylvia Nantongo contributed a game-high 12 rebounds in the victory.
No KCCA player reached double figures, with Zainah Lokwameri and Sharua Nakirya scoring nine and eight points respectively in the loss.
UCU also won the rebounding battle 51-41 as KCCA struggled offensively, shooting just 6-for-42 from beyond the arc and committing 21 turnovers.
The victory saw UCU finish the regular season with 42 points from 20 wins and two losses in 22 games. However, they had to settle for second place as JT Lady Jaguars claimed top spot on the head-to-head tiebreaker after beating UCU in both regular-season meetings.
In the playoffs, UCU will face seventh-seeded KIU Rangers, while table-toppers JT Lady Jaguars take on JKL Lady Dolphins in the standout best-of-three quarterfinal series.
It has been a difficult campaign for three-time defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins, who have had to cope without several key players at different stages of the season.
Third-placed KCCA Leopards will face UPDF Lady Tomahawks, while Magic Stormers take on Pearl Queens in the other quarterfinal matchup.
At the bottom of the table, Angels and Nabisunsa were relegated, while Victoria She Crocs and Miracle Eaglets will have to wait until next season after missing playoffs spots.
