The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has confirmed new dates for the start of the National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs, pushing the postseason to July 10, 2026.
The playoffs had initially been scheduled to tip off this week on Wednesday following the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday. However, FUBA has delayed the start of the playoffs due to a busy schedule of national team engagements this month.
Uganda’s women’s national team is set to compete in the FIBA Women’s Series in France from June 16 to July 4, with events scheduled in Orleans, Poitiers and Marseille.
Meanwhile, the men’s national team will hold a training camp in Rwanda from June 20 to 30 in preparation for the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers set for July 2 to 5 in Angola.
The national U23 men’s and women’s teams will also represent the country at the FIBA U23 Nations League in Kenya from July 1 to 7.
The regular season came to a dramatic close on Sunday, with Victoria Crocs sealing their top-flight status by defeating UPDF Tomahawks 67-62, a result that condemned the Tomahawks to relegation.
Nam Blazers finished atop the standings with a 20-2 record, level with City Oilers, but secured the number one seed courtesy of a superior head-to-head record.
Defending champions City Oilers settled for second place, while Rezlife Saints completed the top three after an impressive campaign in which they became the only team to defeat both Nam Blazers and City Oilers during the regular season.
UMU Flames and JKL Dolphins, who finished ninth and tenth respectively, missed out on playoff qualification and will wait until next season to return to action. Kampala Rockets, who ended the campaign bottom of the table in 12th place, joined UPDF Tomahawks in relegation.
The quarterfinal playoffs will be played in a best-of-three format, with top-seeded Nam Blazers taking on eighth-seeded JT Jaguars.
City Oilers will face seventh-placed KCCA Panthers as they seek to reclaim the championship they surrendered to Nam Blazers last season.
Third-placed Rezlife Saints have been paired against sixth-seeded Sommet, while fourth-placed UCU Canons will battle Victoria Crocs in what promises to be a closely contested series.
Should Nam Blazers overcome JT Jaguars, they will advance to a semifinal clash against either UCU Canons or Victoria Crocs.
