Lugazi FC have secured the future of captain Richard Ayiko after handing the experienced defender a new two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2028.
The renewal was confirmed on Monday following the expiry of Ayiko’s previous deal at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Ayiko, who joined the Leaders at the start of 2024, has established himself as one of the club’s most influential players, playing a key role in their rise to the Uganda Premier League and their successful fight to retain top-flight status.
The versatile defender featured in 26 matches last season, scoring once while leading the team from the back.
His performances were instrumental in Lugazi’s promotion to the Uganda Premier League two years ago, and he has continued to play a vital role in helping the club cement its place in the top flight.
He is the second player to officially renew his contract after Winger Moses Buga.
Lugazi has already signed Christoher Birungi from Nyendo FC, Jamaldin Buchochera from Rwanda Premier League side Gasogi United, defender Louis Anguti from North East regional league winners – MYDA FC.
The club that finished 13th last season with 25 points, earlier confirmed Abbey Bogere Kikomeko as their new head coach.
