SC Villa Captain David Owori Dies After Thug Attack

SC Villa captain David Owori has died, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Owori succumbed to injuries he sustained after he was reportedly attacked by thugs while returning home in Makindye on Tuesday night.

He was pronounced dead on Wednesday at Case Clinic, where he had been receiving treatment.

The versatile midfielder had featured for the record Uganda Premier League champions just days earlier in their 1-1 draw against Maroons in the FUFA Super 8 at Nakivubo on Saturday.

A day before that match, Owori addressed the media alongside head coach Zeljko Kovacevic, expressing confidence that SC Villa would enjoy a successful 2026/27 season.

In a statement, SC Villa called upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently pursue, apprehend and bring to justice those responsible for what it described as a heinous crime.

Owori rejoined SC Villa in 2023 after the expiry of his contract with Swedish second-tier side Utsiktens BK.
