FUFA Super 8: NEC, Entebbe UPPC Battle for Semifinal Place

NEC FC will look to finish the job when they face Entebbe UPPC in the second leg of their FUFA Super 8 quarterfinal on Thursday at Nakivubo Stadium.

The first leg ended 1-1 on Sunday, with James Jarieko giving NEC the lead before Julio Poloto equalised from the penalty spot for Entebbe UPPC.

Despite dropping points, NEC head coach Badru Kaddu was pleased with his side’s display but admitted their poor finishing proved costly.

“The performance was satisfactory. We created chances but failed to take them, and that was our biggest challenge,” Kaddu said.

“We are focusing on our game and want to put up good performances, but we also need to be clinical in front of goal and stay compact defensively.

“Every game presents a new challenge for us to solve.”

NEC suffered an injury setback after midfielder Tony Atukunda was forced off before halftime and replaced by Shamir Kimwero.

“These are some of the things we expect, especially when players are just coming back. We hope the injury is not serious and that it is manageable,” Kaddu added.

New signing Enrique Lubwama made his debut following his move from UPDF FC, with Kaddu optimistic about the midfielder’s impact.

“We expect a lot from him. He showed glimpses of what he can do, and he will be ready when the league starts.”

The winner over the two legs will advance to the FUFA Super 8 semifinals to face either KCCA FC or BUL FC.
