UCU Lady Canons have taken command of the Women’s National Basketball League Finals after beating JT Lady Jaguars 65-61 in Game Two on Friday at Lugogo.
The Mukono-based side now lead the best-of-seven series 2-0, having won Game One 50-35 on Wednesday.
Needing a response, JT Lady Jaguars took a 32-29 lead into halftime. However, UCU turned the game around in the third quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 20-10 to take a seven-point lead into the final quarter.
UCU started the fourth quarter strongly, stretching their advantage to 13 points in the early exchanges. JT struggled to mount a sustained comeback, despite finishing the game with a 7-0 run.
Sylvia Nantongo led UCU with 24 points, while Matrina Anyango posted a double-double of 20 points and 19 rebounds.
Brenda Kayaga led the Jaguars with 15 points and was the only JT player to reach double figures. Sandra Ayikoru and Maimuna Nabbosa added eight points apiece.
The Jaguars struggled from long range, shooting just five of 38 attempts from three-point range, while UCU dominated the boards 67-47.
UCU will now need just three more wins to claim the championship, while JT must win Game Three to keep their title hopes alive.
