URA FC stunned defending champions Vipers SC with a dramatic 1-0 victory in the Uganda Premier League at Nakivubo Stadium on Saturday.

Moses Aliro scored the controversial winner for URA, while Vipers missed a late penalty through Farouk Miya.

Aliro’s cross was pushed onto the post by goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba, but second assistant referee Emmanuel Okudra signalled that the ball had crossed the line, prompting the goal to stand.

Vipers had a chance to rescue a point late in the game after Karim Watambala appeared to be kicked in the head by defender Arthur Kiggund as the latter attempted to clear the ball.

Referee Lucky Kasalirwe pointed to the spot, but Miya’s penalty was saved by URA goalkeeper Khassim Hafizi.

The result marks two wins in two matches for URA under Sam Ssimbwa, who also guided the Tax Collectors to victory against UPDF in his first game after replacing Jimmy Kintu Mwera.

URA move to 10 points from eight matches, having registered their third win of the season. They will visit Kataka on November 4 at Bukedea Comprehensive School.

It is now two defeats in two matches for Vipers interim coach John Ayala Luyinda, who was promoted following the club’s separation with Denis Lavagne.

The Venoms had lost to Mbarara City in Ayala’s first game and will look to bounce back when they host Lugazi at Kitende on November 5.
