Guinness Matchday on Tour Kicks Off Butiki League Season

The Guinness-backed Butiki League returned for its sixth season over the weekend at Yes Sports Centre in Nsambya, Kampala, with football fans enjoying both local action and English Premier League entertainment.

Kira College Butiki Old Boys turned up in big numbers for the season opener, many wearing jerseys of their alumni clubs and favourite Premier League teams.

Fans also watched Arsenal’s clash against Newcastle live at the venue through the Guinness Matchday on Tour experience. For the first time, the Guinness Matchday truck rolled into the grounds, allowing supporters to follow the match on a giant screen.

Arsenal fans celebrated a 1-0 win over Newcastle after Eberechi Eze scored the only goal in the ninth minute at the Emirates Stadium.

The victory moved Arsenal three points clear at the top of the table and ended Manchester City’s brief stay in first place, although the Gunners have played one game more.

Speaking at the event, Guinness Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, Denise Nazzinda, said the company is committed to bringing football closer to fans.

She said Guinness, as the official beer of the Premier League, wants supporters to enjoy the game wherever they are, whether in bars or at sports grounds.

Nazzinda also revealed that Guinness will host the 2025/26 Premier League season finale on May 24 at UMA Show Grounds in Lugogo, promising bigger entertainment and activities for football lovers.

Meanwhile, at Kampala Rugby Club, the Guinness-backed Mwiri League also continued with Matchday Four, where Suici FC came from behind to beat Ruga Ruga FC and book their place in the knockout stages.
