Africa to have 19 match officials at World Cup 2026

Africa will be well represented at the FIFA World Cup 2026™ after FIFA confirmed a list of 19 match officials from the continent for the tournament set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The selected group includes seven referees, 10 assistant referees, and two Video Assistant Referees (VAR).

They are part of FIFA’s elite pool of 170 officials for the global showpiece scheduled for 11 June to 19 July 2026.

CAF officials continue to show strong consistency on the world stage, with 16 of the 19 selected having officiated at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. This highlights the role of CAF competitions in preparing referees for top international assignments.

CAF has also credited its development programmes and continued investment in referee training for helping produce officials capable of handling major global matches.
