Kitara Football Club has been drawn against Somalia’s Mogadishu City FC in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Kitara qualified for this Africa’s secondary club competition after winning the Uganda Cup title when they beat SC Villa in a final at Njeru.
The Royals will begin the tie away from home, with the first leg scheduled to take place between September 4 and 6.
Kitara will then welcome Mogadishu City FC to Hoima City Stadium for the return leg between September 11 and 13, with the team that emerges victorious on aggregate securing a place in the second preliminary round.
The winner of the tie will face Egyptian giants Al Ahly FC in the next stage of the competition.
That encounter will also be played over two legs in October, with the overall winner advancing to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.
However, their first continental campaign ended at the preliminary stage after they were eliminated by Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi.
This time around, head coach Wasswa Bbosa’s team will be hoping for a stronger showing as they seek to make a deeper run in Africa’s second-tier club competition.
Kitara have already added Ghanian defender Christopher Bonny, goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, Winger Martin Kizza, Midfielder Nicholas Kasozi and Jerome Kirya among others.
The Hoima-based side have already progressed to the FUFA Super 8 semifinals after overcoming Police FC 4-1 on aggregate.
