Kitara will hope to make home advantage count when they take on Somalia’s Mogadishu City FC in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Royals qualified for Africa’s secondary club competition after winning the Uganda Cup, beating SC Villa in the final at Njeru.
Kitara have been handed a boost after Mogadishu City opted to host Sunday’s encounter at Hoima City Stadium, having failed to secure a venue in Somalia that meets CAF standards.
Although the Somali side are the designated home team, Kitara are expected to enjoy significant support from the local fans and create a home atmosphere.
The Royals will fancy their chances of securing a positive result on Sunday and easing the pressure ahead of the second leg next week, also at Hoima City Stadium.
Kitara’s debut continental campaign ended at the preliminary stage last season when they were eliminated by Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi.
This time, head coach Wasswa Bbosa’s side will be hoping for a stronger showing as they seek to make a deeper run in Africa’s second-tier club competition.
Despite losing in the FUFA Super 8 semi-finals, Kitara showed good fighting spirit in their Uganda Premier League opener, coming from behind to draw 1-1 with SC Villa at Wankulukuku.
New signings including goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, winger Martin Kizza, midfielder Nicholas Kasozi and Jerome Kirya are expected to add energy and quality to the squad.
Experienced players such as Murushid Juuko and Patrick Kaddu will also be key as the Royals look to secure an important first-leg advantage.
