Vipers SC visit Police on Tuesday at Kamwokya well aware they could be crowned 2025/26 champions if other results go their way.

The Venoms currently lead the table with 60 points, five ahead of second-placed KCCA and six above Kitara, with three matches left to play.

To seal the title, Vipers must beat Police FC while both Kitara and KCCA fail to win their respective fixtures against Express and UPDF respectively.

If Vipers win, they will move to 63 points. A slip for both chasers means neither side would be able to mathematically surpass the Venoms with only two games remaining.

KCCA, who are on 55 points, will play their match against UPDF on Wednesday.

Vipers head into the crucial fixture after a 1-1 draw against URA at Kitende, where Usama Arafat salvaged a point after Ronald Otti had given the Tax Collectors the lead.

Meanwhile, Kitara missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the leaders after suffering a 1-0 defeat at home to NEC on Saturday.

That result continued the inconsistency among Vipers’ closest challengers. KCCA recently lost away to relegation-threatened Calvary before conceding a late equaliser in their draw against Vipers at Lugogo.

The Venoms will also take confidence from their impressive recent record against Police FC. In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Vipers thrashed the Cops 4-1 at Kitende courtesy of goals from Milton Karisa, Karim Watambala, Chukwuma Odili and Usama Arafat.

The victory marked Vipers’ 10th consecutive win over Police FC.

Police last defeated Vipers in 2017, claiming a 2-1 victory at Namboole, with Hood Kaweesa scoring a brace after Karisa had given the Venoms an early lead.

Meanwhile, Police come into Tuesday’s encounter on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Calvary in Yumbe, where Lawrence Olaboro netted the decisive goal.
