Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo will host the inaugural Captain’s Putter tournament on Saturday, September 26, with Johnnie Walker Blue Club adding a premium social experience to the event.
The tournament will be hosted by Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club captain Jimmy Mugerwa, who also serves as chairman of the Uganda Breweries Limited Board.
Mugerwa will officially open the competition with a tee-off at noon on Hole Three, accompanied by a whisky toast.
The opening hole is expected to test the golfers early, with its tight layout, dogleg design and strategically positioned water hazards requiring accuracy and careful course management.
For Mugerwa, the inaugural Captain’s Putter provides an opportunity to bring together golfers, friends, members of Uganda’s business community and the growing Blue Club community.
“I am very excited to be the first captain to host the Captain’s Putter at Lake Victoria Serena. We are looking forward to a great day on the course, but also to creating an experience that goes beyond the golf,” Mugerwa said.
“This is the first edition and we want everyone who joins us to leave with great memories of the day. Golf has a unique way of bringing people together, creating relationships and giving us an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company away from the usual demands of work.”
Beyond the competition, the event will feature the Johnnie Walker Blue Club experience at the traditional 19th hole, with guests treated to premium hospitality, music and an opportunity to socialise after a day on the course.
It will mark the first time the Blue Club takes over the 19th-hole experience at the tournament, placing greater emphasis on the social and networking aspects of the game.
Mugerwa, a Blue Club patron, has been part of the platform’s growing community, which connects people through shared experiences, business, lifestyle and social interactions.
Johnnie Walker East Africa Brand Manager Christine Kyokunda said the brand was pleased to partner with the inaugural tournament and celebrate Mugerwa’s contribution to golf and the business community.

Lake Victoria Serena Golf Director Theo Van Rooyen said the course and staff were prepared to deliver a memorable experience for participants.
“The course is ready for the golfers. The team has been working to ensure that everything is in place to give participants a great experience from the moment they arrive until they leave,” Van Rooyen said.
“We are equally looking forward to what happens off the course. With the Blue Club experience and the 19th hole taking on a special character, expect everyone to have a very good time.”
Limited entries for the inaugural Captain’s Putter had already been taken up by press time, reflecting strong interest in the tournament’s combination of competitive amateur golf, business networking and social entertainment.
