Lady Rugby Cranes Eye Strong Showing at Rugby Africa Women’s Cup

The Uganda Lady Rugby Cranes have been flagged off ahead of the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup scheduled for May 23rd to 31st at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.

A 28-player squad will represent Uganda in the continental tournament, which will feature hosts Kenya, South Africa, and Madagascar.

The flag-off ceremony was officiated by the Assistant Deputy General Secretary of the National Council of Sports, Joseph Oluga, at Copper Chimney in Lugogo.

Oluga praised the Uganda Rugby Union and reaffirmed the government’s support towards the development of rugby in the country.

The Rugby Africa Women’s Cup is the premier women’s 15s rugby competition on the continent and will also serve as part of the qualification pathway for next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup qualifiers.

Uganda is yet to win the tournament but finished third in last year’s edition, where South Africa defeated hosts Madagascar 61-17 in the final match played in Antananarivo.

The Lady Rugby Cranes registered one victory in last year’s competition, defeating Madagascar 24-20.
