Magic Stormers claimed Game One of their National Basketball League playoff quarterfinal series with a deserved 51-38 victory over Pearl Queens on Friday at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.
The fifth seeds, who lost both regular-season meetings against Pearl Queens, are now one win away from reaching the semifinals.
Stormers made a flying start, taking the opening quarter 19-8, but managed only three points in the second period as Pearl Queens fought back to level the scores at 22-22 by halftime.
Coached by John Omondi, Stormers regained control after the break, winning the third quarter 12-9 before opening the fourth with a decisive 10-1 run on their way to victory.
Maureen Amoding led the way with 11 points, shooting 3-for-9 from beyond the arc, while Eve Nakimuli and Joy Nekesa Mupalia grabbed 13 rebounds apiece.

Pearl Queens failed to produce a double-digit scorer, with Jane Chisome Iriele (7 points), Djenabo Ballo (6) and Jamila Nansikombi (5) their top contributors.
The third seeds were undone by 32 turnovers and endured a miserable shooting night from long range, missing all 26 of their three-point attempts.
Pearl Queens must now win Game Two on Sunday to force a decisive third game. A defeat would end their season.
