Uganda in Cairo for FIBA U18 AfroBasket Zone V Qualifiers

Uganda’s U18 Boys National Basketball Team, the Junior Silverbacks, have landed in Cairo, Egypt ahead of the 2026 FIBA U18 AfroBasket Zone V Qualifiers.

The tournament is scheduled to run from July 23 to 29, with Uganda aiming to defend the Zone V title they won in 2024 after a dominant campaign on home soil.

Uganda had initially been awarded hosting rights for the qualifiers at the newly constructed Hoima City Stadium Indoor Arena, but FIBA Africa later moved the tournament to Cairo due to public health concerns arising from the Ebola virus disease outbreak in the country.

The Zone V qualifiers will determine the teams that advance to the FIBA U18 AfroBasket 2026 Finals, scheduled for August 5-16 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Uganda’s U18 Girls team (Junior Gazelles) has already secured qualification for the continental finals, and the Junior Silverbacks (Boys) will now seek to join them.
