•Vipers 1-1 URA
Vipers SC missed the chance to move closer to the Uganda Premier League title after being held to a 1-1 draw by URA FC on Friday night at Kitende.
The Venoms needed a second-half equaliser from Usama Arafat after the Tax Collectors had taken a surprise first-half lead through Ronald Otti.
Otti headed home from Isma Mugulusi’s well-delivered cross in the 35th minute as Hussein Mbalangu’s side stunned the hosts at Kitende.
Vipers responded three minutes into the second half, with Usama perfectly positioned to nod in from close range after Hillary Mukundane’s effort had bounced off the crossbar.
Despite the early equaliser, Vipers failed to create any clear-cut chances thereafter, much to the frustration of the home fans.
It was the fourth time this season that Vipers have failed to win a league game at home, having previously drawn against SC Villa, NEC FC and Kitara FC.
The result leaves Vipers top on 60 points, although their lead could be reduced to three points if Kitara defeat NEC FC on Saturday.
Even so, the title remains firmly within Vipers’ reach, with fixtures against Police (A), Maroons (A) and Express (H) still to come.
URA, meanwhile, continue to struggle for form and have now gone seven matches without victory.
This was their third consecutive draw after earlier stalemates against UPDF and Maroons.
The Tax Collectors move up to 11th place on 26 points and will next face Calvary (H), KCCA (H) and Buhimba.
