The FUFA Big League match between Kaaro Karungi and Kataka descended into chaos on Sunday at Kyamatte Playground in Ntungamo.

Kaaro Karungi looked set for a rare win having taken an early lead when Gideon Onyango struck before halftime.

But the match turned chaotic in the 86th minute when the visitors drew level through Isaac Owiny.

Kaaro Karungi immediately protested the goal, claiming there had been a foul on their goalkeeper in the build-up.

The situation escalated further as Kaaro Karungi players and members of the technical team sat down in the middle of the pitch in protest.

The standoff lasted more than 30 minutes before play eventually resumed from the centre, according to a witness at the game.

There had already been concerns earlier in the match, with referees and the visiting team reportedly questioning the adequacy of security at the venue.

Kaaro Karungi later found a winner through Ronald Ahereza, but that goal also sparked protests from the Kataka side.

According to an eyewitness, the Kataka technical team then instructed his players to walk off the field, a move that was started with the substitutes.

FUFA is yet to issue an official ruling on the matter, with no scores filled on the Big League result slip shared.

Match officials and both clubs are expected to submit their reports before a decision is made.

However, FUFA Competitions rule 23(13) on fixture management and fulfillment states that if a team refuses to continue play despite the referee’s decision to proceed, that team shall forfeit the match and may face further sanctions in line with the Ethics and Disciplinary Code.

The match carried significant stakes, with Kaaro Karungi—second from bottom—battling relegation, while Kataka, in fifth place, are just two points shy of the promotion spots.
