There were ugly scenes at full-time during the FUFA Big League match between hosts Young Elephant Academy FC and Nebbi Central on Sunday.

After the final whistle, match officials were assaulted by some club officials and fans at Young Elephant Arena in Nwoya District.

In a video circulating online, the attackers are seen beating the match officials who handled the game — Denish Odokonyero (referee), Okello Killon (first assistant referee), and David Oula (second assistant referee).

At one point, one of the referees is seen trading punches with one of the attackers in what appeared to be self-defence.

The chaotic scenes followed an intense 90 minutes as the Northern Region derby lived up to expectations.

Reports indicate there were a couple of controversial incidents during the goalless draw.

One onlooker claimed that Young Elephant were denied a penalty, while Nebbi Central had a goal wrongly disallowed, although these claims could not be independently verified by this website.

The match, like the rest of the FUFA Big League fixtures, was not broadcast live.

Similar incidents this season

The incident is reminiscent of the ugly scenes witnessed during the Buganda Regional League match between Synergy and UWA Simba FC in March at Ndeeba Kayunga Ground.

On that occasion, an assistant referee was attacked by two Synergy fans, forcing the match to be halted in the 81st minute with the score tied at 2-2.

As a result, Synergy lost the match by forfeiture and were docked three points and three goals, among other punishments, while the two fans involved were subsequently banned.

Other earlier incidents include sanctions against Kiyinda Boys following their Big League match against Kigezi Homeboyz on March 25, 2026.

Kiyinda Boys were docked two points and two goals and fined one million shillings after crowd trouble that included the assault of a referee. The club was also ordered to identify those responsible or face further sanctions.

In the women’s league, Amus WFC suffered a similar punishment, including a points deduction and a 500,000-shilling fine, after hooliganism and the assault of a referee during their match against Kawempe Muslim on March 21, 2026, at Amus College Stadium.
